Buy a mouse and help a cat!
I donate mice to art auctions to benefit animal shelters.
For every five mice that sell I donate one to an art auction benefitting an animal shelter or other animal charity.
Any five mice. Of course the five can be bought by five completely different people, so every mouse counts until I've reached 25 donations for the year!
And I'll keep doing it as long as people continue to buy my mice, so there's no end date.
Hopefully they'll all fetch at least their retail price at auction.
Since your mouse you buy equals 1/5 of a donated mouse, that would translate to $50 to help animals every time a mouse gets bought either from me, my Etsy store, or from a gallery!
Until I've donated 25 mice for the year, and then I start again the next year.
I love the idea of my mice helping cats (and dogs of course).
Here are some shelters who have auctioned my mice to help their animals.
Felines and friends auctioned off 2 mice in the summer of 2009.
Nine of my mice were auctioned off during that year's Santa Fe animal shelter's annual 'Barkin' ball' bash.
And eight more during the Espanola humane society's Gifts for Good event in Santa Fe.
Another dozen were sent to Hollywood for the Humane Society's auction during the Genesis Awards in March 2010
Two more went to Kennel Kompadres in Albuquerque for their 'dog ball', who run programs in humane education, spay/neuter, adoption efforts and the general welfare of any animals in their care.
Two more again for Felines and Friends silent auction on June 6.
Another nine for an event to benefit the California Wildlife Center on Aug 22.
Three for 2010's Barkin' Ball in September.
Six for the Genesis Awards silent auction in Hollywood 2011
If you know of any animal shelters that host art auctions to benefit their animals, shoot me an email, I'd love to know.
